Christ Church Preaching Plan

Here's a description of our normal worship:

Family Worship, Junior Church & Crèche 10:30

Our morning service is an all-age style of worship, with regular input from our children and young people. Junior Church also usually meet during this service, leaving the service after their own choice of hymn (usually the second). From time to time we have a service with a special youth or family emphasis when the band provides the music. Once a term we have a Youth Participation Service, in which the local brigade and scout groups, as well as Junior Church, take part. A crèche is available for you to take the very youngest members of our church to.

Once a month the morning service is a Communion Service.

Hymns and songs are usually a mixture from the traditional ones found in Hymns and Psalms and more modern ones from Songs of Fellowship or most usually from the more recent book Singing the Faith. They are usually projected at the front, but hymns books are available for those less able to read from the screen.

Bibles are available so that you can follow the readings to aid your understanding; collect one on your way in.

If you are new to our church, you might like to read about the etiquette we follow at our services, so that you know what to expect.

Sometimes we have a Traidcraft sales table after the service.

To find your way into the worship centre from the main car park, do not use the halls entrance, but follow the road to the left of the main hall and turn right to the worship centre entrance.

Evening Worship 18:30 - still suspended except for special services:

Our evening service is often in the traditional URC/Methodist style of worship, sometimes including Communion. From October when the clocks go back until early Spring, when the clocks go forward, it is held in the friendly atmosphere of our Stenner Lounge instead of the church (use the halls entrance - ring the bell if the door is locked). Currently the evening service is only normally held one or two times a month - check the Preaching Plan.

We also hold a monthly informal Sunday Evening Fellowship meeting in the Stenner Lounge at 18:30. Once a month we join the service at The Chestnuts (at 17:00). Sometimes there is a joint evening service at one of the other Woodley churches or elsewhere in the Basingstoke and Reading Circuit.

On the last Sunday of the month, except December, at 18:30 we hold a short modern café-style service called Café Praise. Worship material is usually from the Internet, including video teaching and one or two songs. Refreshments can be consumed before and during the worship, bring your own snacks and we can make you a hot drink. We usually meet in the Stenner Lounge after Games Afternoon.

Messy Church

Once a month we hold our own Messy Church. It is on the second Sunday of each month (except in August) from 16:00 to 18:00. Messy church is worship for families and is very informal. It includes bible-themed stories, music, craft and games, as well as a shared tea (in normal circumstances).

Visiting Preachers

If you are visiting us to lead or take part in a service, then please note the information of the Circuit page of advice. Visiting preachers will also be sent a letter with information, in advance of their visit.

Weddings and Funerals

Our church and minister are available for weddings, funerals and other such services, subject to suitability, availability and the normal charges (which can be provided on application). Most charges are normally waived for members of our church family and their close relatives. Also we can arrange infant baptisms/christenings/dedications, normally held as part of our Sunday morning worship. Please contact our minister to discuss any of these.

Worship Resources

We have collected together some Worship Resources that you may like to use, such as sketches and shows.
