In 2007 we celebrated the coming together of Woodley Methodist Church and Woodley United Reformed Church to form Christ Church. It was also the 25th Anniversary of the new church building opening, replacing what is now the church hall.
Many events and services were arranged throughout 2007, and into 2008, to celebrate the 25 years Christ Church has served the community of Woodley.
Below are the special services we have had.
We also had a history weekend.
You can also see our new anniversary banner.
We collected memories and thoughts, as well as items and photographs, of the past 25 years in a book, starting at our Spring Fair on 12th May 2007. This was on our table of memories in the vestibule.
|13th May 2007||Cradle Roll Service||Our morning family service was a celebration of the young people who have worshipped at Christ Church over the 25 year. A special focus was on all those children and young adults who are listed on our cradle roll from that period, and we welcomed many of them who came along.|
|24th June 2007||Wedding Celebration Service||Our morning service was a celebration of marriage and welcomed back several couples married at Christ Church, especially from the last 25 years. Also we welcomed everyone along who wanted to celebrate their own marriages, with a chance to renew their vows during the service.|
|8th July 2007||Music and Drama Service||Our morning family service was a celebration of the music and drama that has been part of worship at Christ Church over the last 25 years. We had many of those who have been involved taking part and there was something for everyone.|
|30th September 2007||History Weekend Service||Our morning service was part of the history weekend where we celebrated the role Christ Church has played (and continues to do so) in the wider Woodley Community. We were pleased to get involved many of the groups, companies and organisations that have had associations with us over the 25 years.|
|Friday 2nd November 2007||All Souls Service||We met at 11:00 to remember those of Christ Church, and others we know, who have gone in faith before us.|
|4th November 2007||25th Anniversary Service||Our morning service was the climax of our celebration. We welcomed back to lead our service Revd Bernard Arnold who was minister at Christ Church when it was formed in 1982. We were particularly glad to welcome many old friends, who had helped lead worship at Christ Church or had worshiped with us during the past 25 years.|
|4th November 2007||Workshop Service||The anniversary afternoon featured workshops on various subjects leading to tea followed by an impromptu service.|
|11th May 2008||Banner Dedication Service||The 25th Anniversary Banner was dedicated at a service featuring talks by the 24 groups depicted on its squares.|
